First Intention

When Michael Marx was watching me fence during the camp, he immediately noted how often I advance-lunge, and guessed (correctly) that I also use that as a setup to score in other ways. Later in the camp, he told me he'd like to see me score more on first intention.

Thinking about this, I realized a couple of benefits:
1. It forces me to be more patient.
2. It allows me be more decisive.

More after the jump:

So I'm working on that, trying more first intention offense and (especially, right now) counteroffense.

It's funny - he really emphasizes the fleche at NWFC, and I had recently de-emphasized it in my own fencing. I had gone back to the advance-lunge because it allowed me to take two tempos, and see what was developing as I was attacking.

His viewpoint is that using the advance lunge allows my opponent to see what's going on. Taking that time away from them by using the fleche should work to my benefit.
