Neutral Point Position, cont'd
I realized that I'd said Jason had pointed out a flaw in the Neutral Point Position thing. And that I hadn't talked about what the flaw had been.
He had realized that he could attack my weapon shoulder very effectively, because I seemed to be ignoring the fact that it existed. Especially, he said, if he could get my tip moving down or sideways at all, I could never get it going upward quickly enough.
As it turned out, my hand position was just too low. Plus, it was somewhat pulled back toward my body, and my point was hovering at bell-guard level, or below, most of the time. This did not give me adequate defensive coverage of the upper arm target area.
Moving my hand up and forward just a bit seems to have made a world of difference. With small movements now, I can really use the bell guard and the strong part of my blade to defend against those upper arm attacks, and (hopefully) create scoring opportunities on the riposte/counterattack.
